Launched in late 2016, the Jockey Club “Giftedness Into Flourishing Talents” Project (Project GIFT) aims to promote gifted education in local schools. The Project focus is on the Level 1 and Level 2 school-based gifted education provisions specifically to promote the development of capabilities and talents in every child, and nurture children with giftedness and talents.
Over the past 2 years, with the collaboration and support of principals and teachers of the Project Schools, we have designed different school-based curricula on gifted education, in the light of school context and students’ abilities, characteristics and needs. Complemented by lesson observations, teachers’ reflections and programme evaluations, the Project has achieved promising results. To foster professional exchange among schools and to encourage more schools to devote effort to gifted education, some of the teaching plans are collected in this School-based Gifted Education: Learning and Teaching Resource Package. The resources are available on our website as part of the sharing platform for education professionals.
The publication of School-based Gifted Education: Learning and Teaching Resource Package is a successful outcome of professional collaboration and school-based support. It aims:
The 20 Project Schools come from different backgrounds and the design of the learning and teaching plans reflects the actual circumstances of particular schools at the time of implementation. As such, the resource package is developed and tailor-made to meet the specific cognitive and affective needs of students. All learning and teaching resources, including lesson plans, presentation files, student worksheets and students’ work samples, are for reference only. Teachers are strongly recommended to make necessary curriculum, instructional and assessment modifications in accordance with the diverse needs and abilities, learning styles and aspirations of students, professional competence of teachers, and gifted education development of the schools when adapting the materials.
All educators can view, download and use the resources for educational and non-commercial purposes.
